Sarah J. Kelley
As an advanced practice nurse for Comprehensive Emergency Solutions and nursing instructor at UnityPoint Health – Methodist College, Sarah J. Kelley has dedicated her career to advancing all aspects of medical care in her community and beyond. She leads a team of professionals providing life-saving care in the emergency departments at UnityPoint Health – Methodist and Galesburg Cottage Hospital, and is highly regarded for her compassion and experience as both a professional caregiver and dedicated educator. She has also worked as a flight nurse, critical care nursing transport specialist and regional development specialist for OSF Saint Francis Medical Center.
After earning her Master of Science degree in 2012, Kelley was awarded two post-graduate clinical certificates in Advanced Practice Nursing, and she is currently pursuing her doctorate. She has served as a preceptor to resident physicians, nurses and paramedic students; as a mentor to fellow students and colleagues; and has conducted over 150 presentations to nursing and medical students, healthcare professionals, mission partners and schoolchildren.
With her passion for providing medical care to impoverished communities in third-world countries, Kelley embodies the concept of servant leadership. In 2013, she participated in the ER Abroad program, providing care to over 550 acute or chronically ill children and adults in Guatemala. The following year, she volunteered for a mission with Pekin Hospital to care for over 2,000 chronically ill patients in Nicaragua. She has joined Friends of the Children of Haiti (FOTCOH) on three occasions, caring for over 1,200 acute or chronically ill individuals, and was recently designated mission leader for FOTCOH’s January 2018 medical mission.
Kelley still finds time to volunteer with local community organizations, including St. Jude Rides, Midwest Food Bank and the American Heart and Stroke Association (AHA). As a member of AHA’s Executive Leadership Team in 2013, she helped coordinate the Heart and Stroke Ball fundraiser, generating thousands of dollars for research, education and local programming. She holds memberships in the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, Emergency Nurses Association and the Saint Francis College of Nursing Alumni Association. iBi
