Dr. Leon Yeh

OSF Saint Francis Medical Center

Dr. Leon Yeh is medical director of the Emergency Department at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center, where he directs daily operations, oversees other area emergency directors, and is responsible for strategic planning for System Emergency Services. A board-certified emergency medicine physician, he also serves as an assistant clinical professor at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria.

As medical director, Dr. Yeh has increased the engagement of clinicians through a range of evidence-based best practices. His aggressive recruitment efforts resulted in the expansion of services offered by Emergency Department physicians to five additional facilities, helping to ensure standardized care to smaller communities throughout the region. Utilizing his business background, he recognized opportunities that allowed for the capture of over $1.2 million in annual professional revenue fees and annual savings of $1 million through the reduction of expensive services.

A transformational leader, Dr. Yeh has championed Computerized Physician Order Entry, the implementation of electronic medical records and the transparency of provider quality data in the Emergency Department. He has also worked as a liaison between hospitals and community emergency medical service agencies to provide direction for pre-hospital personnel, implementing programs like the Heart 777 rapid activation system.

In addition to his medical qualifications, Dr. Yeh holds an MBA from the University of Texas at Dallas. He previously served as medical director of the ED at OSF Saint James and as ED Medical Director at Pekin Hospital, as well as flight physician, education chief resident and attending physician at OSF. A subject matter expert on a variety of health topics, he is a frequent media spokesperson and contributes regularly to the American College of Emergency Physicians Directors Academy.

A member of the United Way Pillars Society, Dr. Yeh has served as the United Way champion for OSF emergency room physicians and is an active supporter of Teen Challenge, St. Jude and Easter Seals. A graduate of the Physician Leadership Academy, he is a past recipient of the UICOMP Emergency Medicine Mentorship Award and has been selected for multiple leadership programs at OSF. iBi
