Peoria Players Theatre

Peoria Players Theatre

Peoria Players Theatre produces quality theatrical entertainment, provides a creative outlet for local talent and creates handson learning experiences for onstage and backstage volunteers.

We 1) value the contributions of a broad, diverse base of performers, volunteers, employees, donors, audiences and other supporters; 2) are a fiscally responsible organization, which allows us to continue future operations and productions; 3) present a well-rounded season of shows, which includes a variety of recognized theater standards, classics, regional premieres and original works; and 4) value our history, including our workspace, and we strive to be good stewards of our building and grounds and of our relationship with our lessor, the Peoria Park District.

Peoria Players Theatre is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) community theatre. We are the nation’s fourth longest continuously-running community theatre, and the longest-running in the state of Illinois. Peoria Players originated on October
6, 1919 with a one-act play by Oliphant Down entitled The Maker of Dreams, and has been in continuous operation since. We just celebrated our 100th consecutive season.

We typically produce nine shows a year, including musicals, comedies and dramas, a musical revue, a Summer Youth Theatre, and a holiday production. We seek to provide culturally inclusive live theatrical entertainment and give the many talented individuals in our area a creative outlet and the opportunity to perform and grow in a safe, artistically challenging environment.

It is important to us that we provide the community—both audiences and performers—with culturally enriching material, including new, groundbreaking shows as well as the traditional favorites. Peoria Players always welcomes opportunities
to expand our technical horizons and challenge our technical crews in the areas of sets, costumes, lighting, makeup and special effects, and we encourage participation from many diverse segments of the community.

We have staged such shows as Children of a Lesser God, The Boys Next Door, Fences, Fiddler on the Roof, Ragtime, Billy Elliot, Mamma Mia!, Kinky Boots, The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Elton John and Tim Rice’s Aida, and we continue to do so.

Peoria Players has also sponsored and produced shows and special performances which benefited St. Jude Runs, Toys for Tots, Family Readiness (to serve families of those in the military), Loud Mommy (to benefit children with autism), Boys and Girls Clubs, South Side Mission, Susan G. Komen for the Cure, PetSmart Adopt-AThon, Special Olympics, South Side Office of Concern, Heart of Illinois Down Syndrome Association, Central Illinois Friends, and Habitat for Humanity.

How to Help
Peoria Players depends greatly on its volunteers. We have several areas in which we welcome help, including set
construction/painting, costumes, props, makeup/hair, lighting and sound design/execution, box office, hosting and ushering, and stage management. Patrons may also join our Cast of Patrons program listing by donating to Peoria Players Theatre. For more information, feel free to contact us at (309) 688-4473 or
