Mission & Vision
As a faith-based organization, it is our mission to share the love of Christ by alleviating hunger and malnutrition locally and throughout the world and providing disaster relief, all without discrimination. Our vision is to faithfully continue to help those in need by:
- Serving those in need. We recognize and adapt to our agencies’ (food pantries, schools, soup kitchens, shelters) needs, providing resources to help them best solve food insecurity for individuals and families.
- Empowering volunteers. Our volunteers find purpose in their efforts shared with MFB. Opportunities are available for any age and array of abilities. The countless hours and expertise of our volunteers is a unique and blessed differentiator.
- Embracing our communities. We warmly welcome community members and partners, engage with them to serve those in need, and sincerely appreciate the joint partnerships we have.
- Working with integrity. Our communications and actions are always done with honesty and transparency.
- Executing through teamwork. We work across all our divisions and within our locations. We place a high priority on collaboration, leveraging best practices for continuous improvement of an already efficient organization.
Midwest Food Bank distributes over $1.7 million worth of food to more than 320 nonprofits each month. Midwest Food Bank is structured to provide service opportunities and operate through the work of volunteers.
Our volunteers are more than our hands and feet; they are fundamental to the success of our organization. They collect, sort, pack and distribute food and disaster relief donations, reminding us every day that our mission could not be achieved without them. Donations of food, monetary gifts and volunteer hours directly support MFB’s four programs:
- Food distribution to non-profit feeding programs
- Disaster relief food supplies
- Tender Mercies (delicious, highly nutritious, hot meals) and
- Hope Packs (weekend school children feeding program)
How to Help
Donate: Primary support for Midwest Food Bank comes from individuals, small or large corporations, and churches, and private grants. Every gift received is carefully allocated to programs that directly support food distribution, with less than one percent spent on administrative support.
Volunteer: Whether working as an individual or in a group, volunteering brings tremendous impact that goes far beyond the mission of the organization. Every person who chooses to volunteer experiences benefits as well. Immediate volunteer needs include: CDL truck drivers, local grocery route drivers, forklift operators, general warehouse helpers and daytime volunteer ambassadors.
