Save lives by meeting the most critical needs in our communities and investing in breakthrough research to prevent and cure breast cancer
We have transformed how the world treats and talks about this disease and have mobilized the largest and most passionate community. Since 1982, we have funded more than $988 million in research (second only to the U.S. government), more than $2.2 billion in education, screening and treatment, serving millions in over 60 countries worldwide.
In November 2018, Komen Memorial announced to the community that it will be one of 26 locations across the country to launch the new Susan G. Komen MORE THAN PINK Walk. The Komen Peoria MORE THAN PINK Walk (formerly Race for the Cure) has a new name, a fresh new look, and a new experience that better engages our community and drives a more personal connection to the breast cancer movement for the thousands of people who walk in Komen events each year.
This new approach is based on input from participants across the country and by Komen’s own observations from years as the leader in breast cancer events. To that end, Komen plans to focus the event as a walk, which is how the vast majority of our participants experience the event already.
As we do in our mission programming, we are always eager to move forward, try new things and lead in any area that drives us closer to our bold goal: to reduce breast cancer mortality in the U.S. by 50 percent by the year 2026.
Participants will get to take a closer look at how their efforts are moving the needle in breast cancer research and in local breast cancer programs. They will get this opportunity by visiting new tents that reflect the pillars of our mission: research, care, community and action. There will be interactive experiences in each tent that conclude at our Mission Mosaic wall, where participants will use pieces collected at the pillar tents to construct a final project, and stop and pose for a photo.
We are excited to bring these changes to the event that brought breast cancer out of the shadows and evolved into the largest and best-known fundraising event to end breast cancer.
To date, Komen Memorial has invested over $5 million in breast cancer research and over $12 million in community health and outreach programs, engaged more than one million people in community mission events, and welcomed more than 350,000 supporters through signature events.
