South Side Mission

Mission
Our mission is to proclaim Jesus Christ, in His name love our neighbors, and provide hope to the community through life-transforming ministries.

Vision
Minister to our community in Christ-loving ways that provide opportunity for positive change.

New Promise Center
The New Promise Center – Women’s Homeless Shelter is a ministry that cares for women and children by providing shelter, case management, life skills, job training and spiritual enhancement through our four-phase Christian-based program.

Children and Youth Ministry
Up to 70 children and youth come to the Mission for Biblically-based afterschool tutoring, mentoring and performing arts programs. We also operate a summer day camp every year from June to August.

Culinary Arts Training School
The Culinary Arts Training School is a career-training, professional development program. Unemployed and underemployed students learn job skills and job training through an intense 12-week course and graduate with their food handler’s license. Students prepare meals for the Lighthouse Diner, offering free lunch Monday through Friday.

Church Relations
The Church Relations Ministry is an outreach ministry that partners with churches to proclaim the Gospel, restore hope, and transform lives through our Adopt-A-Block and Hope Builders programs, which focus on our 61605 neighborhoods. Worship, prayer and chapel are offered weekly and volunteer opportunities are readily available in all of our ministries, programs and services.

Benevolence Center
Our Benevolence Center offers free food, clothing, furniture and appliances to those in need five days a week (by appointment). For many, our food pantry fills a gap for their family. Each food basket contains nonperishables and bread, and may have meat and desserts. We also offer couches, chairs, beds, washers, dryers, and other household and furniture items. Each day, donations of every kind flow in from all over our community. We then offer these items at no charge to those in need. Job coaching is also provided through our Benevolence Center.

Thrift Stores
Our thrift store ministry offers quality furniture, collectibles and family clothing at modest prices at three locations: 603 E. War Memorial Dr., 3033 N. Sterling Ave., and in Morton at the Field Shopping Center.

How to Help
We could not help the thousands of people in our community each year without depending on our faithful volunteers. No matter what your talents and gifts are, we know God has a place for you to serve.
