Keep Peoria Beautiful is a volunteer, not-for-profit organization established to improve the environment of the Peoria area through beautification, litter prevention, waste reduction, recycling and education.
For more than 60 years, Keep Peoria Beautiful has been a catalyst for drawing together governmental agencies, civic organizations and volunteers to make an impact on a variety of citywide beautification projects. We envision a cleaner and greener Peoria—a more sustainable place to live, work, and play.
Orchid and Onion Awards
Keep Peoria Beautiful has been bestowing these honors on area businesses for more than 60 years, bringing public attention to their outstanding efforts to improve the appearance of their property. Winners are recognized at our annual Awards Ceremony in September.
Iris Awards recognize neighborhood associations and individual homeowners for outstanding landscaping and beautification of their homes and gardens. Winners are recognized before the Peoria City Council and at our annual Awards Ceremony in September.
Ronald McDonald House
A partnership started in late 2017, Keep Peoria Beautiful will provide expertise, materials and resources for the installation and maintenance of landscaping for the new $7 million Ronald McDonald House. Groundbreaking for the house took place in September 2018; grand opening is tentatively scheduled for Fall 2019.
Great American Clean-Up
Hosted in conjunction with Keep America Beautiful, the Great American Clean-Up is a citywide clean-up event. Businesses, community organizations, schools and individuals work throughout the city to help pick up litter and debris from their neighborhoods. In previous years we have been able to provide tire recycling and electronic waste recycling.
The Adopt-a-Box program was created in 2016 in Peoria’s Warehouse District (along Washington Street between State and Liberty) to aid in the care and maintenance of planter boxes. Various businesses and individuals have adopted boxes, participated in plant replacement and routine weeding, and otherwise taken care of their planters. These planter boxes were established to help combat the combined sewer overflow problem.
