To provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever.
All children achieve success in life.
Heart of Illinois Big Brothers Big Sisters is a youth mentoring organization that works to better the lives of children in our community. We match children with a suitable adult role model in the community and in local schools.
In the Community-Based program, volunteers spend time with their Little out in the community doing activities that interest them both. Some examples of activities include playing sports, trying a new restaurant, or simply taking a walk and talking about how each of their weeks are going.
Our Lunch Buddies program allows volunteers to meet with their Little at his/her school during the lunch period where they might do homework, read or play a board game together.
By partnering with parents/guardians, volunteers and others in the community, we are accountable for each child in our program achieving higher aspirations, greater confidence, better relationships, the avoidance of risky behaviors and educational success.
While children in our program come from all walks of life, we typically serve those who may be coming from single-parent or low-income homes, or children who need some additional guidance, between the ages of five and 14 years old. Big Brothers Big Sisters understands that inherent in every child is potential—and we aim to empower, ignite and defend that potential for all.
How to Help
Heart of Illinois Big Brothers Big Sisters is always looking for volunteers to participate in our community-based and Lunch Buddies programs. We ask that all volunteers meet with their Littles two to four times a month for at least one year.
If you are interested in volunteering, give us a call and talk with one of our Enrollment and Matching Specialists at (309) 637-1771, or stop by our office. If you don’t have the time to commit to a match but would still like to help out the agency, feel free to make a financial donation through our website, hoibbbs.org, or join our Leadership Council of young professionals.
