Open Mic Night

Peoria’s Got Talent comes to the Betty Jayne

Maybe you sing in the shower. Perhaps a hair brush substitutes as a microphone in front of the bathroom mirror. Or you sang lead in your high school play and always wondered if the stage beckoned beyond that. Perhaps you’ve tried your hand at creating a YouTube video. Maybe you’re just one of those people who’s never been able to drive past that bar on Karaoke Thursday.

Whatever, your time has come at The Betty Jayne Brimmer Center for the Performing Arts, which will host its first Open Mic Night on Thursday, July 2.

Actually, this isn’t just about singing. We plan on providing a stage over four hours to anyone with a talent they wish to showcase. Perhaps performance poetry is your thing. Maybe you play a mean sax. You crack up your family at every holiday gathering, so perhaps others would laugh at your comedy, as well.

There is no cost or cover but we do request that you register in advance at thebettyjayne.com/calendar.

Who knows, this could be your springboard to bigger and better things. Indeed, our staff will be watching, and down the road, this could lead to a future gig at The Betty Jayne or at the Scottish Rite Theatre.

Not everyone has to participate, of course. Come enjoy the evening as a spectator and support the hidden gifts that our community holds. Why, you may even catch sight of a rising star.

Bring your appetite, too, as we’ll have a food truck on site, as well as a cash bar. If weather permits, our Nana Wall will be open, so bring a lawn chair or blanket and have a seat outside with your family.
