The Metropolitan Airport Authority of Peoria will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for its new terminal building on Friday, October 10th at 11am. The organization will also unveil its new brand and name. Speakers include Congressman Ray LaHood, H. Ross Perot and state legislators. For more information, call 697-8272, ext. 123.

The Greater Peoria Mass Transit District announced a new Bartonville express bus route and additional time points to Pekin, to begin December 1st. Citylink has received $87,075 from a federal grant through the Tri-County Regional Planning Commission to make these new trips possible.

“Pet Portraits” opens at the Peoria Art Guild on Friday, October 10th, and runs through November 15th. The opening reception will be held from 5:30 to 7:30pm on Friday. Admission is free to members and $5 for non members. The Humane Society and Peoria Art Guild will partner on a fundraising auction November 15th. Proceeds will be shared with the Humane Society, PAWS and the Peoria Art Guild. Fundraiser tickets are $20 for members and $25 for non members. For more information, call 637-2787, ext 2.

Jerry & Marilyn Hayden and Bob & Kathleen Clark pledged gifts of $2.5 million to Bradley University to support a new alumni center to be built on the west side of campus. The Hayden-Clark Alumni Center is projected to cost about $12 million, and the University hopes to break ground for the building in the spring.

In honor of Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month, the 4th annual Share Walk for Remembrance & Hope will kick off at 10:45am. There will be a memorial service and a one mile walk. Dogs and their owners gather at the Peoria Riverfront for the Peoria Humane Society’s 12th annual Bark in the Park. Hundreds of paws and feet will walk to benefit animals in the community. Registration begins at 11am at Festival Park and activities will continue until 2pm when the walk starts. For more information, call 494-8171.

The Public Relations Association of Central Illinois hosts its next meeting from 11:45am to 1pm. Dr. Michael Thurwanger, director of the Reagan Leadership Program at Eureka College, will speak on “Social Marketing and Blogging.” Cost is $17 for members and $22 for non-members.
