Construction is now underway for a $16 million parking deck for Methodist Medical Center. The deck is part of Methodist’s $350 million campus replacement plan. The six-level, 270,000-square-foot structure will hold 600 cars and feature a covered skywalk connecting the deck to a new hospital entrance on Hamilton Blvd. It is expected to be complete by late summer 2009.
Prairie Folklore Theatre announced plans for the sixth annual Historic Springdale Cemetery Tour the first two weekends in October. Tours start promptly at 2pm and 4pm each day on Saturday and Sunday, October 4-5 and 11-12. Tickets are $10/adults and $5/child. Call 689-8000 to make reservations.

The Peoria RiverFront Association is proud to announce its Fall Market on the RiverFront. The market will feature apples, pumpkins, mums, cider, donuts, arts, crafts and much more. Participating restaurants will offer “Kids Eat Free” with paid adult meals during market hours, and local musicians, children’s activities and demonstrations will be featured each week. The market will be open every Saturday in October, 10am to 2pm, located between Old Chicago and River Station.

Eureka College will partner with the Associated Colleges of Illinois and four other ACI member institutions in a five-year $500,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Education. The grant supports the Transforming Curriculum in Special Education (T-SPED) initiative to enrich special education curricula and improve the quality of special education teacher preparation programs to ensure that graduates meet the requirements of No Child Left Behind and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.

StoryCorps
StoryCorps, a national initiative to document everyday history and the unique stories of Americans, began collecting the stories of central Illinois residents last week. Hosted by WCBU, the StoryCorps mobile StoryBooth—an Airstream trailer outfitted with a recording studio—is open now and will be parked at Metro Centre for 24 days. Bradley University Founder’s Day
Bradley University alumni, faculty and staff will be recognized during Founder's Day activities on campus on October 3rd. The annual Founder's Day Convocation will begin at 10am in the Dingeldine Music Center. Faculty awards for teaching, research and service will be announced during the ceremony. In addition, six alumni will be inducted into the Centurion Society. Following the Convocation, the annual Founder's Day Luncheon will be held, during which the Distinguished Alumnus, Outstanding Young Graduate and Lydia Moss Bradley awards will be presented. Award winners include: Distinguished Alumnus Award, The Honorable Ray LaHood '71; Outstanding Young Graduate Award, Salvador Tinajero, Jr. '95; and Lydia Moss Bradley Award, Glen D. McCullough '50 MA '56. The 2008 inductees to the Centurion Society are Renée C. Byer, Theresa S. Falcon, James C. Kenny, Edward M. King, Ray LaHood and Gary M. Peplow.
