40 Leaders Nomination Deadline in Five Days!

Nominations will be accepted until 5pm on Monday, September 15th, for the 2008 class of 40 Leaders Under Forty!

We are looking for candidates who share a commitment to business growth, to professional excellence and to the community—those who are shaping the future of central Illinois.

Those 40 leaders will be honored at a prestigious awards ceremony at the Hotel Pere Marquette on Thursday, November 6, 2008. The November issue of iBi will profile the winners.

Nomination forms are available online at peoriamagazines.com and in the August and September issues of iBi. Nominations will be accepted through Monday, September 15th.




Fall Music Festival at Glen Oak Park

A ceremony will be held this morning at 10am to dedicate a stretch of Abington Street from Frye to Adams Street as “Fogelberg Parkway.” The honorary designation will serve as a tribute to Dan Fogelberg, an East Bluff native and one of Peoria’s finest musicians. The street served as an inspiration for a number of Dan’s most famous songs.

This Saturday, celebrate the legacy of Dan Fogelberg at the Fall Music Festival at Glen Oak Park, to be held from 2 to 9pm. Enjoy great food provided by Echo Valley Meats, children’s activities provided by the Junior League of Peoria, Dan Fogelberg memorabilia, and lots of live music! Disney’s Ralph’s World, sure to please children of all ages, will perform at 3pm. The Peoria Acoustic All Stars, a roundtable of some of Peoria’s finest musicians, will perform A Tribute to Dan Fogelberg at 6pm. John Sebastian, formerly of The Lovin’ Spoonful, will headline at 8pm. Other artists include Lollester Rocket and David McDonald. Proceeds will go to support the Cancer Center for Healthy Living in memory of Dan Fogelberg and his fight with prostate cancer. For more information or to buy tickets, visit livemusicpeoria.org.

The Peoria Area Chamber of Commerce presents the 18th District Congressional Candidate Forum with Aaron Schock, Colleen Callahan and Sheldon Shafer this morning from 7:30 to 9am at the Hotel Pere Marquette. The 92nd and 106th District State Representatives Candidate Forum with Jehan Gordon, Joan Krupa, Keith Sommer and Tom Shrier will be held September 17th from 7:30 to 9am at The Heartland Partnership Board Room, 100 SW Water.

Goodwill Industries of Central Illinois is seeking nominations for a series of awards to be presented at “To Honor and to Serve: The Goodwill Veterans Recognition Event” scheduled for November 20th at the Peoria Civic Center. Tom Brokaw, the guest speaker for the event, will join Goodwill in thanking veterans from throughout central Illinois and honor the memory of General Wayne A. Downing. In November, the Goodwill Home for Veterans will be named in honor of General Downing. The Methodist College of Nursing will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony and grand opening celebration for the newly renovated College of Nursing Library at noon on Tuesday, September 16th at the College, 415 St. Mark Court. For more information, call 672-5740.
