The registration deadline for the OSF HealthCare / Peoria Area Chamber Golf Outing is this Thursday, July 17th. The golf event, which includes 18 holes of golf, on-course beverages, breakfast, lunch and an hors d’oeuvres reception sponsored by Perpetual Jewel, will be held on Monday, July 28th, at the Country Club of Peoria. The National Center for Agricultural Utilization Research (NCAUR Ag Lab) is hosting the Midwest Area Bioenergy Research Forum from 9am to 4pm this Friday. This one-day special event will address the challenges and opportunities in bioenergy and will include discussions and presentations, as well as tours of the NCAUR research facility and pilot plant. Innovate Illinois, a statewide business plan competition sponsored by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, will award two $40,000 cash prizes to Illinois small businesses. The competition is designed to identify innovative small businesses that create jobs and generate revenues in Illinois. Up to three businesses will be selected from regional competitions to make oral presentations and be eligible for regional cash prizes of $5,000, $2,500 and $1,000. Eligible businesses must be located in the following counties: DeWitt, Fulton, Livingston, Marshall, Mason, McLean, Peoria, Stark, Tazewell and Woodford. Completed applications are due by August 15. The Peoria Area World Affairs Council presents “Pakistan and the US: Allies but not Friends” with Ambassador Touqir Hussain tomorrow, Thursday, July 17th, at Barrack’s Cater Inn. Reception begins at 5:30pm, with dinner at 6pm. The program will begin at 7pm. Online registration is available at artspartners.net.

Three Sisters Park in Chillicothe and its close affiliate, The Three Sisters Antique Tractor Club, have started a “Save the Steam Engines” fundraising campaign for their two operating steam engines. Both are in need of substantial repairs and re-certifications by the State of Illinois, which costs an estimated $30,000. The remaining balance of their $100,000 goal would be invested in annual and perpetual maintenance, inspections and operator training. Pledges and contributions can be made to Three Sisters Park and/or Three Sisters Antique Tractor Club and should be designated for the “Save the Steam Engines” campaign. 40 Leaders Under Forty: Class of 2008

InterBusiness Issues is now searching for the next class of young leaders in the Peoria area—those who are making a notable difference in the community.

Nominees must be 39 years of age and younger as of September 30, 2008. A panel of judges will carefully review the nominations and determine those leaders who most aptly demonstrate successful leadership qualities and accomplishments in the Greater Peoria Area—those who make a difference and best define the spirit of youthful initiative throughout our community.

We are searching for candidates who share a commitment to business growth, to professional excellence and to the community—those who are shaping the future of central Illinois.

Those 40 leaders will be honored at a prestigious awards ceremony at the Hotel Pere Marquette on Thursday, November 6, 2008. The November issue of iBi will profile the winners.

Nomination forms will be available on August 1st at peoriamagazines.com and will run in the August and September issues of iBi. Nominations will be accepted through Monday, September 15th.

Dixon’s Seafood Shoppes hosts the second annual St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital/Midwest Affiliate Shrimp and Corn Boil from 11am to 6pm at the Itoo Hall (4909 W. Farmington Road). Dixon’s seafood experts will be preparing large meals for $10 per person featuring jumbo shrimp, corn-on-the-cob, smoked sausage, baby red potatoes, frosted brownie and iced tea. A raffle and 50/50 drawing will also be held. All net proceeds will be donated to the St. Jude Midwest Affiliate in Peoria. Tickets are available at the door.

The second annual Heart of Illinois Classic Auto and Bike Show, an Arthritis Foundation Greater Illinois Chapter fundraiser, will be held from 8am to 4pm on July 20th. The show will include 36 award categories, RC car races, NSRA safety inspections, music, food, door prizes and a silent auction. The show is free to the public, $15 for pre-registration entry and $20 for day of registration entry. Money raised from the event will benefit the local Juvenile Rheumatology program and Peoria-based Juvenile clinic.
