In the fall of 2007, a local group of women were frustrated that the life and work of Betty Freidan was not recognized inher home town of Peoria, Illinois.
We searched for a way to celebrate Betty
Friedan and to celebrate the lives of other local women who go unnoticed for their accomplishments. It was quickly realized that the ywca peoria could allow us to accomplish our goals and support programs for women, children and families that Betty Friedan envisioned.
“Maybe my power and glory was that I
could speak my truth as a woman and
it was the truth of everywoman.”
Betty Friedan
