Working in healthcare is a calling for many. The work healthcare providers do has the potential to make a big impact. I admire the thousands of dedicated team members who come to work at UnityPoint Health every day with one thing in mind: providing the best outcome to every patient who walks through our doors.
As a nonprofit health system, we rely on support from the community to continue providing affordable, accessible care. We couldn’t do it without the incredible work our foundations do for us. Through their programs, we’re able to make investments in services and equipment that make a big difference for the communities we serve. I’m proud of our foundations, and I want to share with you a few ways they’re helping UnityPoint Health carry out our mission.
The UnityPoint Health – Methodist | Proctor Foundation supports our Peoria hospital campuses, clinics and services. Through fundraising events and the support of many generous donors, the Foundation provides grants that help UnityPoint Health meet its mission of excellence in patient care.
One important service the Foundation recently impacted is the Methodist Inn, which provides a comfortable place for family members to stay when their loved one is in the hospital. Guests have private bedrooms and bathrooms with a daily continental breakfast. Patients who have an early morning procedure scheduled can also stay at Methodist Inn to make arriving for their appointment a little easier. Earlier this year, Methodist Inn was upgraded with new finishes and amenities, making it more comfortable and accommodating. I am so grateful to our Foundation Board for funding this work.
In Pekin, we’re supported by the Pekin Hospital Foundation, whose latest projects have brought some fun to our youngest pediatric patients with toys, movies and iPads. In addition, the Baby Place received equipment such as an infant warmer, infant heart monitor and a wireless telemetry fetal monitor.
The Pekin Hospital Foundation’s work is truly impacting the next generation, whether through their healthcare needs or through education. Recognizing the importance of developing new talent for healthcare professions, they passionately support those who are interested in a career in healthcare through scholarship opportunities. The impact they have by helping students pay for their education undoubtedly touches the lives of many patients and family members down the line. I am proud of the work this Foundation is doing.
Providing outstanding care to the communities we serve takes a lot of collaboration and resources. It takes dedicated team members giving their best each day. It takes innovators keeping us on the leading edge. And it takes support from our foundations, which provide valuable resources that help us provide better care—and make receiving that care even more comfortable for patients and their families.
