As RN Safety Project Manager, Lisa T. Schuck is responsible for the coordination of patient safety activities throughout OSF HealthCare Saint Francis Medical Center (SFMC). In this role, she plans and coordinates projects for clinical and operational process change, utilizing performance improvement tools and methodology to advance the culture of safety, and is responsible for the coordination and analysis of critical events. Considered a “big picture” visionary, she has advanced from caring for individual patients to impacting whole systems of patient care.

A nurse by training, with numerous awards for her commitment to patient care, Schuck has worked to revamp SFMC’s Safety Coach program by incorporating elements of TeamSTEPPS, an evidence-based system aimed at optimizing patient outcomes by improving communication and teamwork among healthcare professionals. She has been instrumental in the Safety Saves Forum, which invites panelists to share their expertise and testimonials on topics related to patient safety, and was the driving force behind the Patient Safety Awareness Fair, which she has steadily expanded over the last two years.

A gifted mentor, educator and micro-debriefing facilitator, Schuck leads with heart, mind and spirit—always keeping the patient as person at the center of her leadership. She served on the SFMC Professional Nursing Congress Recognition/Communication Committee for four years, chairing it for two, and was chair or co-chair of the Nursing Excellence Awards from 2010 to 2014. She is a volunteer peer supporter for Project HOPE, a program to support second victims, and has actively participated in the Coordinating Council, Nurses Notes Committee, BSI and CAUTI steering committees, and Medical ICU/Medical Intermediate Sunshine Committee at SFMC.

Outside of the workplace, Schuck has given of her time and efforts for a range of organizations, serving as a Relay for Life team captain, room parent volunteer at Blessed Sacrament School, and participant in the Heart of Illinois United Way’s GEN U Mad Dash, in addition to volunteering for the Morton Pumpkin Festival, Midwest Food Bank, American Diabetes Association and The Salvation Army. iBi
