For nearly a decade, he was a sales engineer for Thompson Electronics, and as director of engineering for Zdi, Inc. in Normal, he was lead technology engineer for a number of large international projects, as well as projects closer to home, including the Jump Trading Simulation and Education Center, University of Illinois College of Medicine Peoria campus, and the Peoria Riverfront Museum and Giant Screen Theater. Caldera is among an elite group of dual-certified CTS-D and CTS-I holders, with fewer than 250 professionals worldwide recognized for their knowledge of audiovisual technology systems. He currently chairs both the Audiovisual and Integrated Experience Association (AVIXA) International CTS certification program and the American National Standards Institute/AVIXA International revision of the Standard for Audiovisual Design and Coordination Processes.

As senior faculty at AVIXA International University, he teaches at national and international trade shows. He is also an instructor in the acoustics program at Columbia College Chicago, where he has helped to develop the Audiovisual System Design curriculum.

Caldera volunteers for the Spirit of Education Association, a not-for-profit radio station serving central Illinois, and teaches local high school students about radio operations, live sound and the installation of AV systems. For his significant contributions to professional development and training in the AV industry, he received the 2016 AVIXA International Educator of the Year Award. He also earned the National System Contractors Association’s Randy Vaughan Founder’s Award and the AVIXA International Young AV Professional Award, and was named a “Top 40 Influencer Under 40” by Commercial Integrator magazine. iBi
