On August 21, 2017, a total solar eclipse will be visible across the country for about three minutes. Dusk will fall in the afternoon, and stars will be visible—one of the most wondrous sights in all of nature. While Peoria is not in the path of totality, you can still view a partial eclipse. So if you can’t make it to southern Illinois or Missouri to experience the total eclipse, the Peoria Riverfront Museum has you covered:
- Watch ECLIPSE: The Sun Revealed, a new show in the Dome Planetarium, which explores the historical and cultural view of eclipses through beautiful visuals, and explains the geometry behind the awe-inspiring sight. (Now showing: Mon-Thurs 12:30pm; Fri-Sun 4:15pm.)
- Read “The Wonder of Totality” in the Jul/Aug 2017 issue of Art & Society magazine for a firsthand account by a prominent eclipse chaser, former Planetarium Curator Sheldon Schafer.
- Get your solar glasses—plus maps and books about the eclipse—in the Museum Store.
- Attend the free Partial Solar Eclipse Viewing Party on August 21st from 11:30am to 1:45pm, with access to solar telescopes, pinhole projectors and fun activities on the museum's Sun Plaza.
