Investing in the future of central Illinois…

In 2015, a significant investment will be made in developing an enhanced maternity center on the campus of UnityPoint Health – Methodist. The center will combine the resources of both Methodist and Proctor to create an intimate, family-oriented birthing center that will provide enhanced services.

What experience could be more intimate or joyous than welcoming a new baby into your family? Being part of your baby’s birth is our privilege, and our every effort is focused on the well-being and comfort of you, your baby and your family. After all, we’re not only caring for moms and dads—we’re caring for the future of our community.

Focused Care and Family Features
Early on, focus groups were critical to the conversation about the center and the high level of personalized care that patients expect and deserve. These focus groups, which included patients, physicians and staff, have helped guide the planning for an enhanced environment at the newly-renovated maternity center at UnityPoint Health – Methodist.

“We wanted feedback from our patients so we could better understand what they were looking for,” says Lori Filock, director of maternal/child services. “We were excited to have such an engaging conversation about the plans for our renovated facility.”

The center will provide more warm and family-oriented features, including:

“This is a very exciting time for both UnityPoint Health – Peoria and our community,” Filock declares. “We are delighted to be able to offer our families a more comfortable birthing experience.”

A Nurturing Environment
The renovated maternity center at Methodist will grow from 26 to 32 beds, all of them private. With the completion of a new lobby entrance, access to the center will be easier, with surface parking and valet services available.

The entire birthing experience takes place in the comfort of a private LDR (labor-delivery-recovery) room. This beautiful, nurturing environment feels more like home than a hospital, offering a cozy sofa bed for your support person, and of course, state-of-the-art technology.

The center is expertly staffed by OB hospitalists 24 hours a day, seven days a week. These experienced obstetricians will oversee patients’ care until their personal doctor arrives. The certified Level II Neonatal Unit will care for at-risk babies greater than 32 weeks’ gestation, and a neonatologist—a doctor who specializes in the care of newborns—is available if they should develop any problems. iBi
