As patient care manager at Illinois Neurological Institute, Abby Lotz leads 150 employees across the Intermediate Neuroscience, Surgical Intermediate, Medical Intermediate and Palliative Care units. She is responsible for day-to-day operations, staffing and scheduling, and implementation of measures to improve patient care and outcomes, and recently led her four departments through physical relocation, illustrating her aptitude for communication, coordination and change management.

Her approachable demeanor has created a positive atmosphere for employees and patients alike. By setting high expectations and promoting teamwork and professional development, she has received the highest possible employee satisfaction scores for more than four years. Under her leadership, her departments have achieved and maintained high scores in quality, safety and financial measures.

Lotz is president of the Illinois chapter of the American Association of Neuroscience Nurses and has been published in the Journal of Neuroscience Nursing. In 2010, she implemented the Spine School, a pre-operative clinic for individuals who will be having back surgery. She has presented at numerous professional meetings and conferences and serves on a range of committees at OSF Saint Francis, which recognized her leadership with the 2014 Nursing Excellence Award for Transformational Leadership. Further demonstrating her commitment to professional growth, Lotz will receive her Master of Science in Nursing degree from the Saint Francis Medical Center College of Nursing in December.

Lotz has conveyed leadership and a passion for health in her volunteer activities and charitable contributions as well. In 2011, she established Meet in the Mind, the Illinois Neurological Institute’s Brain Tumor Support Group, and currently serves as its facilitator. She participates in a number of charity runs each year to benefit St. Jude, ALS, MS, Brain Tumor Association and Children’s Hospital of Illinois. She is also a member of the Riverview Parent Teacher Organization and Junior League of Peoria.

She and her husband, Jeremiah, have two daughters, Hannah and Avivah. Aside from being a full-time employee, student and mother, Lotz enjoys running, CrossFit, reading and cooking. iBi
