For nearly a decade, Tamara Camille Butler has been a social worker in Peoria Public Schools District 150, providing mental health services to students, performing evaluations for special education services, conducting skills and development studies, and connecting families with community resources. She currently serves the students of Richwoods High School, where she is a sponsor of the Step Team and Gospel Choir, coordinator of the Black History Month program, and representative for the Peoria Federation of Teachers.
She is also a member of the School Social Workers Association of America and Illinois Federation of Business Women, membership chair of the Illinois Association of School Social Workers, member of the Positive Behavior Intervention System Committee, assistant to the College Bound Peoria program and an adjunct faculty member at Illinois Central College.
Butler devotes her time to a wide range of community programs, including the Susan G. Komen Circle of Promise Minority Breast Health Advisory Board, Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition of Peoria County, South Side Mission, Crittenton Centers’ Crisis Nursery, March of Dimes, Peoria Park District and National Pan-Hellenic Council. She is active with Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, serving as basileus for the Epsilon Eta Sigma Chapter and contributing to initiatives such as Operation Big Book Bag and the National Youth Symposium.
Butler served on a screening committee for the appointment of the 10th circuit judge, as well as the Stark County Judicial Selection Committee. She has previously assisted with voter registration as a deputy registrar and is a past Casey Foundation/DCFS Team Decision Meeting community partner.
A passionate community activist from a young age, Butler is a Millikin University Service Learning Scholar and has been honored with numerous awards by her alma mater. She is also the recipient of Sigma Gamma Rho’s Sigma Image Award and the Illinois Federation of Business Women’s Woman of Excellence Award, and serves as clerk at Heavens View Christian Fellowship Church. iBi
