Dr. M. Jawad Javed is a neonatologist at Children’s Hospital of Illinois and assistant professor of clinical pediatrics at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria. He also serves as co-medical director of the Pediatric Medical Follow-up Clinic and associate program director of the pediatric residency training program.

In addition to providing outstanding care to his patients, Dr. Javed has been active in both clinical research and resident education, and serves as a preceptor and mentor for residents in the NICU. His research on neonatal infection was recently presented at a national pediatric meeting, and he has also been involved with the Parent Advisory Board, creating a user-friendly parental handbook for neonatal diagnoses.

In his role as associate program director, Dr. Javed is responsible for the establishment of a comprehensive pediatric board review curriculum for the pediatric residency program. He has also been a mentor to many residents in the program, helping them seek post-graduate fellowships and present their research at national meetings.

Dr. Javed created and implemented the Daily Steps: Walking with Doctors fundraiser, raising more than $15,000 for Children’s Hospital of Illinois, as well as the Blue Glove Dance video, intended to raise awareness of colon cancer and honor his colleague, Dr. Mary Schultz, who was diagnosed with the disease. He volunteers as a guest speaker to raise funds for the Children’s Hospital of Illinois Foundation and is active with the Islamic Foundation of Peoria. He also mentors high school students as they pursue careers in the healthcare field.

As a resident in training, Dr. Javed received the Outstanding Intern Award, Outstanding Resident Teacher Award, M3 Pediatric Clerkship Resident Lecture Award and Resident of the Year Award. More recently, he has received the Celebration of Excellence Teaching Award for the M3 Pediatric Clerkship and the UICOMP Outstanding Service Award.

Through all of his commitments, Dr. Javed manages to fulfill all of his obligations as a physician, administrator, educator, mentor, husband and parent with grace and enthusiasm. iBi
