As the transfer center program coordinator at Illinois Central College, Nikisha Wright Anderson advises and assists students with transfer information for colleges and universities. Her duties include managing the budget, supervising staff and student workers, and facilitating the articulation process between two-year and baccalaureate programs.
Anderson works with transfer center advisory committees and assists with outreach and recruitment activities within the community, making presentations to high school, campus and community groups on behalf of ICC. She also assists with the planning and implementation of State Transfer University Day, Private College and University Day, the Transfer Student Nursing Fair and On-the-Spot Admissions Days.
In her 10 years at ICC, Anderson has continuously gone above and beyond the call of duty. She chaired the Minority Retention Committee and played a key role in creating and executing strategies that have contributed to the growth of ICC’s minority student enrollment and retention, a top strategic priority for the college. She has been instrumental in a number of the college’s strategic priorities by supporting students in targeted populations in their quests to improve their lives though education. She is the co-coordinator and advisor for Harvesting Dreams Too!, a networking and support cohort for female minority students.
For her commitment to the students of Illinois Central College, Anderson received ICC’s Staff Who Make a Difference Award and the District 150 You Make a Difference Award in 2005. She is also a certified Six Sigma Green Belt.
A strong believer in giving back to her community, Anderson volunteers with the Manual High School Academic Progress Conference, St. Paul Baptist Church and Delta Sigma Theta, a public service sisterhood. She currently serves in leadership roles of various organizations, including the Methodist College of Nursing President’s Advisory Council, Illinois State University College Advisory Committee, Illinois State Transfer Coordinators and Illinois TEAM Advisory Committee. She is a former advisor for Tomorrow’s Black Leaders and the Multicultural Student Association, and has been a group facilitator and presenter for conferences and school programs focused on career and educational development.
Anderson is also a contributing writer to AfraVictoria magazine, a publication for the Renaissance Woman of Color that highlights the finest points of culture and womanhood. She is a dedicated professional who exceeds expectations in all of her commitments, and works hard to encourage students to use the tools at hand to further themselves.
