Nate Hurn serves as the district office manager and veterans’ policy advisor for the Office of Congressman Schock. Employed with the 18th District Congressional Office for more than seven years, Hurn works to accomplish the successful day-to-day operation of three district offices. He supervises staff and maintains one of the busiest caseloads in the district, working with individuals and organizations on military, veterans and transportation cases, while also assisting with special projects. In addition, Hurn coordinates the internship program, the Military Academy nomination process, and the Congressional Page nomination process.

Several years ago, the U.S. House of Representatives established a rule preventing congressional members and staff from serving in leadership roles within community organizations. Shortly before Hurn began working in the 18th District Congressional Office, he had established himself on the boards of the Alzheimer’s Association, Easter Seals and the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Although he can no longer serve on these boards, Hurn finds ways to volunteer and stay involved. In the past few years, he has helped coordinate and carry out events like the Veterans Homefront Drive and Tee It Up For the Troops to assist military personnel, veterans and their families. Hurn is also involved with the Peoria Area Chamber of Commerce Community Leadership School and the Mid-Illini Charity Riders Organization.

All of this hard work has gained Hurn many recognitions, honors and awards. He is a graduate of the Peoria Area Chamber of Commerce Community Leadership School and was awarded the Outstanding and Unselfish Service Given Above and Beyond to the Veterans of Central Illinois Award from the Peoria Vet Center. The Elks awarded him with a certificate of appreciation, and the United States Marine Corps awarded him with the National Veterans Service Commission Recognition.

Hurn has served the 18th Congressional District with honor, successfully handling thousands of cases during his tenure. He has gone above and beyond in his professional and volunteer activities and has become a valued leader in our community. Hurn approaches every task in a humble way, yet maintains a great sense of humor that compliments his dedication to public service. iBi
