Pony Up for Children's Hospital of Illinois
Little pockets produced big results on Sunday as children from all over the Peoria area saddled up in order to raise over $2,000 for Children's Hospital of Illinois. The event, held at Rocking C Day Camp and Stables, focused on the theme "Kids Helping Kids." Community children were educated about the importance of giving and encouraged to donate both monetarily as well as through the creation of crafts and cards for Children's Hospital patients.
Not only did children make the donations, but students from Rocking C's day camp and riding programs donated their time to serve as event staff, monitoring carnival games, crafts and horse rides for their peers. The volunteers, as well as the horses, entertained a crowd of more than 200 attendees.
Kids Helping Kids was organized as part of a senior project by students at Bradley University. The four student coordinators helped to inspire the relationship between Rocking C and Children's Hospital of Illinois, as well as secure additional fundraiser support through generous donations from local food vendors: Avanti's and Buffalo Wild Wings.
