Peoria Magazines is launching a new program in 2019. Essentially, we plan to turn our office into an art gallery!

It’s long been understood that office artwork is more than an aesthetic choice—it also boosts employee productivity, creativity and happiness. According to studies by the University of Exeter and in commercial offices, people working in “enriched spaces” (decorated with art or plants) were 17 percent more productive than those in “lean spaces.”

Not only will this program enhance our office with color and vibrancy, it encourages the community to purchase locally-made works of art, as all pieces are for sale to the public. In the spirit of collaboration, we are working with Collecture’s “I Buy Art” initiative on this project. The Peoria-based company creates fabric and pillows from original pieces by emerging local artists—“I Buy Art” is their grassroots campaign urging people to buy local art through this very simple message.

A trio of artists are participating in this inaugural exhibition, which runs through March. Jim Burnham is a photographer from Tremont whose work ranges from dramatic mountain landscapes to architecture and urban life. Elizabeth Davis maintains a studio at the Contemporary Art Center of Peoria, where she teaches workshops in encaustic painting, which involves colored pigments added to heated beeswax. Photographer Natalie Jackson O’Neal also keeps a studio at the CAC—her work is not only her livelihood (as a medical photographer for Soderstrom Skin Institute), it is her passion and means of self-expression.
