Successfully mixing art and business sometimes requires thinking outside the box.Justin Graham has done just that, combining musical passion with business acumen to launch MuziqueBaux—a new company offering a variety of live music for events in central Illinois.
Graham’s talent bench of more than 100 vocalists and instrumentalists can provide high-quality, professional entertainment ranging from string quartets to jazz and blues bands for all kinds of gatherings, from weddings and private parties to work functions and fundraisers. “We can deliver pretty much any kind of musical performance,” he explains. That includes unique experiences like flash mobs and singing telegrams—a fun and creative way to show love and fill the room with smiles, Graham says. His team ensures that each MuziqueBaux experience is customized to the client’s needs.
A talented musician himself, Graham started training on the piano at age four and singing in gospel choirs at age five. He participated in bands and choirs into adulthood, including the Peoria Jazz All Stars in high school and the Timeless Voices ensemble at ICC, where he majored in classical piano and classical voice performance.
While working in sales and retail management to develop his business skills, he continued to perform, instruct and seek ways to help others make a career out of their talents. “I’ve always had a dream to be able to provide consistent performance opportunities to other musicians,” Graham explains. “And to bring back the relevance of experiencing live music. Music should be the life of the party!”
So far, the response to his venture has been very positive, and Graham credits his mentors, board members and management team with helping make his dream a reality. It’s more than just a business to him—it’s a way to share the joy of music with the community. “Music is so much more powerful and influential than we realize,” he says. “My heart beats for Peoria!” a&s
